Orion, ChemSpec enter partnership to distribute carbon blacks

Aug 07, 2023

HOUSTON—Orion S.A. and ChemSpec have entered a distribution partnership whereby ChemSpec will offer Orion's carbon black in the U.S. and Canada.

ChemSpec, a division of the Paris-based Safic-Alcan Group, is a chemical distribution company based in Uniontown, Ohio.

"ChemSpec is well-positioned in the rubber industry to service our customers in North America," Orion Channel Manager David Roth said in a statement. "They already have an impressive portfolio of products to offer the rubber industry, and the Orion carbon black line will enhance their value to the end user."

The distribution pact, which takes effect July 1, covers carbon black for mechanical rubber goods. ChemSpec will distribute Orion's rubber and premium rubber carbon black product lines.

"What's more, ChemSpec has seasoned salespeople, coupled with the infrastructure needed to service this market," said Chris Erickson, vice president for rubber blacks in the Americas. "We are pleased to be part of their portfolio and look forward to partnering with them to grow the business."

ChemSpec President Dave Moreland said the partnership benefits both companies.

"We are very excited to be representing such a strong international player in the carbon black space," Moreland said. "I am confident that ours and Orion's shared commercial expertise in the rubber market, along with Orion's strong product portfolio and technical know-how, will allow us to become a very successful partner with Orion across the U.S. and Canada."

Orion supplies carbon black, a solid form of carbon produced as powder or pellets. The material is made to customer specifications for tires, coatings, ink, batteries, plastics and numerous other specialty, high-performance applications.

Orion, which began in Germany, has innovation centers on three continents and 14 plants worldwide, offering the most diverse variety of production processes in the industry.
